The Best Places To Live In Florida

Money Magazine recently published its “100 Best Places to Live in America” list. The only Florida towns to make the list were Hunter’s Creek at number 21, and Winter Springs at number 97.

How could this be since you know that the town in which you currently reside in Florida is one of the Best in America by your standards. Or, if you are investigating a specific town for Florida retirement or relocation, you may have decided that your "gem" is the Florida's best. After all, you have done your due diligence in the search process.

Ha! The criteria used for this study explains the results and likewise diminishes the usefulness of the list. In the first place, only towns with populations less than 50,000 were considered.

Places with median family income more than 200% or less than 85% of the state median, and those more than 95% white were screened out. Retirement communities were also excluded!

The other usual factors such as education, health, arts and leisure, jobs and economy, and home affordability were evaluated. Both of the Florida towns on the list stood out for “home affordability.”

Of course the irony is that many of these data points are comprised from sales of homes that are located in Florida Retirement Communities! What's more, buying Florida homes or condos in these locales at these prices would have been considered unheard of just a few short years ago.

Nevertheless, here are some facts about Hunter’s Creek and Winter Springs.
